The Promise of Hope
We see so much division in our world today – politics, ethnic relations, economic inequity, bullying, nationalism. These things are so prevalent that we encounter them every day in our media, our conversations, in almost every interaction we have with our fellow man. With every one of these experiences, we become more convinced that things are getting worse and there is nothing we can do about it. Our young people are particularly influenced by this negativism to the point where they feel they just can’t face life any more. There is no future for them.
But we know that isn’t true. God has given us the Promise of Hope. He has taken away our sins. He has given us the promise of new life. He has promised to be with us through all our trials to give us strength to meet any challenge. The problem is that too many people don’t know or don’t believe this promise.
We want to do something to bring hope to those who have none. We want to demonstrate that God does mean what he says and will be with us whatever befalls us. And we want to start right here in our own community.
The Bulverde Community Choir has for many years brought music as well as the Word of God to the people of our area through our Broadway Comes to Bulverde series of programs. We hope that we have lightened the lives of those who hear our messages through entertainment, humor and by showing that even the music of Broadway and the Movies carries some truth as to the promises God has given us.
This August we want to focus our message on God’s Promise of Hope. Yes, we will have fun and entertainment but in doing so, we hope to show that there is hope that we can count on, regardless of how bad we think things are. We hope to bring light to those that can’t see it. In particular, we hope to reach those young people who suffer hopelessness and depression to let them know that there are people who love them, who want to help them and will stand with them as they face the hardships and disappointments of life. Mostly, we want to let them know that God loves them and will bring light into their lives if they will let Him.
If you know of anyone who can use encouragement, some light in their life or just a little relief from the cares of the world, bring them to Bulverde United Methodist Church at 28300 Highway 281 North at 7:00 PM on August 18 and 19 or at 3:00 PM on August 20. We are preparing to demonstrate how God has given us the Promise of Hope and you and your friends and relatives can share it with us.
