Comal County and WORD Approve Safety Rules

This week, the Water Oriented Recreation District (WORD) passed new rules to enhance safety on the water near our boat ramps. With designated areas for motorized vessels and swimmers, we are ensuring a safer experience for everyone.

“We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable Holiday weekend," said Mike Dussere, General Manager of WORD of Comal County." These rules are designed to enhance safety at our water access areas.”

At the same time, Comal County adopted rules and regulations for the use of County boat ramps and County boat ramp areas.  The Commissioners Court of Comal County finds that regulating the use of County Boat Ramps, County roads leading to County Boat Ramps, and parking lots within the County Boat Ramp Areas will allow the County to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the general public.

“We look forward to continuing our work with WORD, to provide safe access to everyone on Canyon Lake, “ said Comal County Judge Sherman Krause.
As we enter the busiest weekend of the year, both WORD and Comal County want to remind everyone:

  • Be safe on the water.  Wear life jackets! They float, you don’t.
  • Always keep an eye on children, especially around the water!
  • Recreate responsibility.  Stash your trash!

All county-maintained boat ramps remain closed the public for motorized launching, however hand launching canoes or kayaks is allowed.
WORD operates Comal Park and Canyon Park on Canyon Lake.
