Comal County Friends of the Night Sky

Comal County Friends of the Night Sky (C.C.F. N.S.) was formed in March, 2020 by a group of concerned residents who first met using Zoom. The purpose of C.C.F.N.S. is to promote and encourage the protection and preservation of the night sky (as defined by the New Oxford American Dictionary as a place where the darkness of the night sky is relatively free of interference from artificial light) in Comal County.

C.C.F.N.S. promotes and encourages municipalities (including extraterritorial jurisdictions), unincorporated areas, neighborhoods, and businesses within Comal County to adopt, apply, observe, and enforce outdoor lighting ordinances and resolutions.

Comal County Friends of the Night Sky provides education and information to the citizens of Comal County through presentations, demonstrations, and educational materials in the efforts of long-term protection and preservation of the night sky.

All citizens who want to restore and preserve the night sky are welcome and encouraged to join us in our efforts. We meet monthly at different locations in County Comal. Our website comaldarksky.org is always available for education and information.

A dark night sky over Comal County protects the health of humans, our wildlife, and plants. It is our Texas Heritage and our property right. Generations, now and in the future, should be able to enjoy stars, planets, the Milky Way, and the Moon in the night sky over Comal County.
